Mustangs have been on my mind a lot lately. Between my quest for a new daily driver and my social media feeds exclusively displaying all things Mustang, and the upcoming Team Shelby Monterey trip, I couldn’t help myself from browsing ClassicCars.com to see what was listed.
What caught my eye for Pick of the Day was this stunning 1967 Shelby GT500, with its “top-notch color combination” of Acapulco Blue and black interior, and sitting on a set of authentic Shelby wheels.
Carroll Shelby said, “These cars are meant to be driven.” With Shelby’s words always in mind, what appealed to me about this car after I began reading the listing on ClassicCars.com was that it was restored to be driven while still meeting Shelby American Automobile Club Concours standards.
The Overland Park, Kansas, dealer advertising the GT500 notes that the set of Shelby 10-spoke wheels wrapped in new radial tires with custom Goodyear lettering were added so that “the next caretaker can enjoy the car on a modern radial tire while still having a correct appearing car.”
The dealer reveals that the Shelby has undergone a recent restoration that was overseen by the current owner, who is said to be one of the nation’s top authorities on 1967 Shelbys.
“The car has been sorted from top to bottom,” the dealer says. “No detail has been left unaddressed to yield a car which is ready to win a concours gold award with ease.”
The listing photos reflect the attention to detail that the car received, and confirm the car’s Shelby serial number of 2745. Photos of the black interior show car’s factory air conditioning, a rare option at the time installed on just a small number of Shelby big blocks.
The original V8 engine has been rebuilt and backed by an automatic transmission. The dealer does not specify which V8 came from the factory with this GT500, but they were usually fitted with the 428 Cobra Jet rated at 355 horsepower.
The price for what is apparently an accurately restored GT500 is available by contacting the seller, who says there are additional photos available as well.
