In the male-dominated realm of collector cars, one group is conducting a new car show during Monterey Car Week that’s by women and for women.
The Prancing Ponies Car Show is open to all female owners and co-owners to present their vintage and exotic cars in a casual, first-time event that takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m, on Wednesday, August 16, in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
The show is organized by a group of enthusiasts with exotic cars, primarily Ferraris, who happen to be women. The goal of the Prancing Ponies Foundation, besides having fun with cars, is to help teen-age girls grow into tomorrow’s leaders through “international travel and cultural immersion,” according to a Prancing Ponies news release.
“We do this by sending high school graduatinggirls to our Leadership-Abroad Academy each summer,” the group says in the release. The 501(c)3 non-profit foundation holds car rallies and shows to raise money for the program, and this year sent four deserving girls to Paris. “Our goal is to send 10 girls to Italy next year.
“The Car Show provides an opportunity for young girls to be inspired to pursue careers in the automotive/motorsports industry and be empowered by seeing other women car enthusiasts.”
All kinds of collector cars are invited to the show, with the women encouraged to dress to match their vehicle’s color and time period. Awards will be given for best owner/car presentation, as well as a prize for best of show.
The show also will honor The Unique Ladies, the first all-women lowrider car club in the U.S. Some of the group’s custom rides will be on display.
