With 600 cars on its docket, Silver Auctions celebrates its 20th anniversary with its annual Arizona Car Week sale at Fort McDowell.
This year, the auction features hot rods, Japanese collectables, and various future classics.
For me, Silver is always an enjoyable auction to visit because the atmosphere isn’t as intimidating as some of the other sales and it gives you the opportunity to really look at the car.
Given the chance, here are some cars I would take home if I could:
| 1967 BMW 1800 BMW celebrated its centennial in 2016 and that meant it was the featured marque everywhere, including the vintage races in Monterrey during car week. From the moment I saw the classic Beemers take on the Corkscrew I became pretty obsessed with them. The Batmobile was my favorite, but for the day-to-day this BMW 1800 will do just fine. I love the front grille styling along with the cars overall boxie lines. |  |
| 1950 Oldsmobile 88 This green on green Oldsmobile 88 has the look of a new car with its new interior matched by its new paint. The rims and hubcaps are original to the car and it is powered by a 303 cubic inch engine hooked to a 3-speed automatic. It’s not the typical sporty go-fast machine I’d be into, but the look is what caught my eye. |  |
| 1973 Autobianchi Giardiniera Looking at this 1973 Autobianchi Giardiniera I can’t help but wonder how the car came to be, what was the automaker's motivation for creating such a small car, and what kind of people actually bought it back in the day. This cutie is powered by a 500 cc engine hooked to a 4-speed manual. |  |
| 1983 Mazda RX-7 Classic Japanese vehicles are rapidly gaining the interest of collectors and this car seems to be a solid candidate because it has just 77,000 original miles. This RX-7 is powered by a 1.1-liter engine and is an overall clean looking and solid car. I would like it in a different color, but maybe this brown shade will become popular. |  |
| 1971 Lancia Fulvia What I like about this Lancia Fulvia is the front-end styling coupled with the large headlights. The body is oddly shaped, which makes it funky and interesting to look at. This car offered at Silver is seen in a beautiful dark blue paint that draws you in. |  |
