Two classic car museums will benefit from the sale of three cars at Leake Auction Company’s inaugural MotorCity auction scheduled for September 9-10 in downtown Detroit.
A 1931 Ford Model A-400 will be sold to benefit the Classic Car Club of America Museum while proceeds from the sales of a 1941 Cadillac Series 62 and a 1989 Cadillac Seville will go to the Cadillac & LaSalle Club Museum. Both museums are located on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum in southwestern Michigan.
“Over the years we have many vehicles and memorabilia for charities across the United States,” Richard Sevenoaks, Leake president, said in a news release. “There is not a better way to kick-off our inaugural auction in Detroit than by selling three vehicles to benefit two important car museums. This is a great way for Leake Auction Company to support the ongoing research, promotion and preservation on the history of cars.”
The ’31 Model A-400 has a 40-horsepower L-head engine and three-speed manual transmission, crushed-grain brown leather seats, cowl lights, a pair of side-mounted spare wheels and a folding rear luggage rack, as well as a flying quail radiator mascot atop its chrome grille guard.
The ’41 Series 62 Cadillac is a former CCCA Senior award winner that was restored in 1998. It has a 346 cid V8 engine and Hydra-Matic transmission. The ’89 Seville also has a V8 and automatic.
The CCCA Museum was established in 1983 “dedicated to the discovery, procurement and preservation of automobilia, notable automobiles, artifacts and documents from the classic era.”
The Cadillac & LaSalle Club Museum opened two years ago in a new building that is part of the Gilmore’s “dealer row,” an area featuring several vintage-style dealerships, each housing cars of a specific marque. The Cadillac & LaSalle facility preserves the legacy — the vehicles and various artifacts — relating to those brands.
Leake’s MotorCity auction will be held at the MotorCity Casino Hotel. To see other vehicles on the auction docket, visit the Leake website.
