I didn’t even know what a “cocktail hamper” was until the news release arrived from Rolls-Royce informing us that it has created a limited-edition of 15 such hampers “to meet the needs of customers who wish to relax and enjoy something a little beyond the traditional glass of Champagne.”
And I suppose that if such a way to relax and enjoy has become your tradition, you might not even flinch at the $46,328 price tag.
“Each motor car that we craft represents a deeply personal expression of individual customer tastes and lifestyles. This extraordinary scope for personalisation extends far beyond the car itself through an Accessories Collection, featuring exceptional objects designed to augment the lifestyles of the marque’s customers,” Gavin Hartley, head of bespoke design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said in the news release.
“This beautifully executed Cocktail Hamper illustrates the marque’s intimate understanding of the desires of the most discerning patrons of luxury in the world; Rolls-Royce customers.”
Created by Rolls-Royce accessories designer Sina Maria Eggl in consultation with experts from the Dorchester Collection London Hotels, the hamper “is meticulously hand-crafted over a period of eight weeks from American Walnut Wood and the finest Natural Grain Leather that adorn the interior of some Rolls-Royce motor cars.,” the news release reports.
“On opening the Navy Blue leather-bound lid, the customer is presented with every necessary accoutrement required to create and enjoy the perfect cocktail. Each implement is a bespoke, hand-made creation designed to combine beautiful aesthetics with practicality, ensuring effortless use. Indeed, the notions of effortlessness and supreme luxury inform everything about the design.
“The paring knife, for example, is magnetically housed in a recess hewn into the American Walnut structure thereby ensuring it is stored and transported in safety and without disturbance.
“On opening, an automatic integrated light illuminates the Hamper in a warm glow, in turn reflecting from the mirrored surfaces to evoke the aesthetic of a luxurious cocktail bar.”
Each of the 15 hampers comes with four handmade decanters, four handmade tumblers, a cocktail shaker, ice bucket and tongs, bottle opener, knife, two “sharing” plates (“should the user wish to present their guests with canapes”), “fine cotton” napkins, six cocktail sticks, two food containers, four straws, a stirring spoon, jigger, muddler, crusher, atomiser, strainer (engraved with the RR monogram), glass serving tray, chopping board and cocktail recipe book
Glassware, with platinum-trimmed rims, is handmade by Theresienthal, supplier to several of Europe’s royal courts and where fifth-generation family “craftspeople” take a month to produce each piece in a “production process ensures no two glasses are the same, with almost imperceptible differences attributable only to the glasses’ master craftsperson.”
