For the second year in a row, Silverstone Auctions will stage a sale in conjunction with the Practical Classics Restoration Show, March 28 in the National Exhibition Centre near the Birmingham Airport in England.
Because of the nature of the show, Silverstone focuses its docket on barn finds and vehicles ripe for restoration while also offering an array of road-ready classic cars.
At the inaugural sale last year, 85 percent of 184 lots sold with an overall total of $1.67 million, led by a 1962 Facel Vega HK500 that brought $108,000 (hammer price) while a barn-found 1958 Jaguar XK150 drophead coupe went for $104,000 and a musty 1969 Aston Martin DBS Vantage that had been in long-term storage sold for $85,600.
Consignments are still being accepted. So far, they include a 1961 3.8-liter Jaguar Mk II that has not been driven since a tree fell on the garage where it was stored, as well as such road-ready vehicles as a 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider and 2001 BMW Z8.
The Practical Classics Restoration & Classic Car Show is a joint-venture of the organizers of the NEC Classic Motor Show and Practical Classics magazine. It is considered England’s largest such indoor event and includes the auction, a 500-vehicle car show, 350 classic car vendors, and a series of how-to demonstrations, workshops and seminars featuring the likes of Edd China and Mike Brewer from the Wheeler Dealers television show.
One seminar will be hosted by the West Midlands Police and the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, focusing on “Securing your classic.”
