Sixty is the magic number for Silverstone Auctions’ first sale of the year, with 60 classic and exotic cars and motorcycles spanning more than 60 years ready to cross the auction block Saturday.
Held at the Silverstone Wing building on the historic race circuit, the sale includes vehicles ranging from examples of exotic Italian and English elegance to such unique items as a classically British 1950s fire truck.
A glorious 1971 Ferrari 246 GT Dino tops the bill for the auction. Valued between £180,000 and £220,000 ($300,000 to $370,000), the mid-engine Dino was originally used as a show car for the 1971 Earls Court Motor Show. It has traveled just a little over 50,000 miles and is believed to be the only right-hand-drive Dino ordered new in white with a blue interior.
A 2000 Rolls Royce Corniche at auction has the distinction of being the first example of the final Rolls Royce model built at the original Crewe factory, and carries chassis number 001. Value estimate is between £95,000 and £105,000 ($160,000 to $170,000).
Bringing star power to the auction, pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez was the original owner of a limited edition 1998 Aston Martin DB7, estimated at between £30,000 and £35,000 ($50,000 to $57,000). Scottish actor Gerard Butler once owned the 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 roadster, estimated at between £55,000 and £65,000 ($93,000 to $109,000).
The 1955 ex-Leicestershire & Rutland Fire Service Dennis fire truck, which looks like a life-size prop from a Wallace and Gromit stop-action cartoon, is estimated between £8,000 and £10,000 ($13,000 to $17,000).
The May Sale is the first of two events held by the auction company at Silverstone Circuit, with the second scheduled for July.
“Our first sale at The Wing this year is set to be a great one,” said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “As always the team (has) brought together a stunning collection of fascinating and unique cars.”
