Sixty-five Porsches will be up for auction Saturday when Silverstone Auctions holds its second annual sale dedicated to the German marque at the famed Silverstone Circuit in Towcester, England, where the auction is being held in conjunction with the Porsche Club GB.
With values for vintage Porsches hitting new heights, the Silverstone sale will be closely watched by enthusiasts worldwide. The collection includes cars spanning more than 50 years, featuring classic 911s and an assortment of so-called transaxle cars, the front-engine models that mark their 40th anniversary this year.
“We’re huge fans of Porsche at Silverstone Auctions so we were honored back in early 2015 when Porsche Club GB approached us to host a very special auction, our first-ever marque-specific sale, and it’s a delight to be back again this year,” Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said in a news release.
A 2004 Carrera GT is the highest-valued car at auction“As a self-confessed Porsche fan, this really is one of the highlights of our auction calendar, and I look forward to meeting as many Porsche enthusiasts as possible at what should be an amazing sale.”
Headlining the auction is Porsche’s 10-cylinder supercar, a 2004 Carrera GT. The low-mileage example originally was sold in Pompano Beach, Florida, and exported to the UK in 2009. The pre-auction value estimate is £440,000 to £480,000 ($534,000 to $583,000 at the current exchange rate).
An early short-wheelbase 1968 911T, a rare right-hand-drive model described as restored and with one owner since 1988, carries a value estimate of £85,000 to £100,000 ($103,000 to $121,000). A desirable1975 Porsche 911 2.7 MFi Carrera Targa, one of just six UK-supplied cars and said to be previously owned by Porsche enthusiasts and Porsche Club GB members, is estimated to sell between £130,000 and £160,000 ($158,000 and ($194,000).
Newer Porsches at the auction include a 2010 Porsche 911 (997) GT3 RS – Gen II, finished in Carrera White with Red wheels and decals, valued at £135,000 to £155,000 ($164,000 to $188,000). A low-mileage 2008 Porsche 911 (997) GT2 with a recent major service completed is estimated at £130,000 to £150,000 ($158,000 to $182,000).
A “barn-find” project 1971 911S 2.2 coupe, taken off the road in 1984 for unknown reasons after about 43,000 miles and kept in dry storage since, will be offered with a value estimate of £55,000 to £65,000 ($67,000 to $79,000).
For the transaxle car anniversary, the auction includes a show-winning 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S estimated at £35,000 to £40,000 ($42,000 to $49,000); a “time-warp” 1981 924 with just over 6,000 miles at £15,000 and £20,000 ($18,000 to $24,000); and a pair of V8-powered 928s, a manual-transmission GT valued at £22,000 and £27,000 ($27,000 to $33,000) and a 1993 Clubsport at £25,000 and £30,000 ($30,000 to $36,000).
