Led by a Rothmans-liveried MG Metro 6R4, more than 60 classic road and racing cars will be offered for sale at Coys auction held January 16, 2016, in conjunction with the annual Autosport International celebration in Birmingham, England.
The 1985 Metro 6R4 is reported to have been driven only 3,100 miles and has never been raced or rallied; it was the original Rothmans show car and has been maintained as it was on display at various events and limited demonstration drives.
The MG Metro 6R4, with its hot-rodded 3.0-liter V6 engine mounted mid-ship, was among the famed Group B rally cars of the mid-1980s and was developed for Austin Rover by Williams Grand Prix Engineering.
Also being offered at the auction are the 2002 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car that won races at Silverstone and Indianapolis and carried Henzler Wolf to fourth place in the final standings in its inaugural racing season. The car has been in dry storage for the past three years but is considered race-ready and comes with a complete set of spare wheels.
Also on the docket are:
- A 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GT that has been owned by the same family since 1979.
- A 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark III, one of only 551 built and with only two owners in the past 29 years.
- A 1982 Vauxhall Chevette HSR DTV raced in rallies by Russell Brookes.
- An ex-works Group 4 Ford Escort MK 2 that was driven by Ari Vatanen.
The Autosport International show runs January 14-17 at the NEC in Birmingham.
