Earlier this month at its auction in London, RM Sotheby’s announced an addition to its 2016 sales calendar, the offering of a large private collection to be held this fall in northern Italy. Wednesday, the auction house shared details of what it is calling the “Duemila Ruote,” the sale of 2,000 Wheels, which it says is the largest automotive-themed private collection sale ever in Europe.
The sale will include more than 430 cars, 150 motorcycles, 60 boats, and hundreds of bicycles and items of automobilia — all offered without reserve. The sale, which also will include several bobsleds, will be held the weekend of November 25 in Milan in conjunction with the Milano AutoClassica — the Classic & Sports Car Show.
“For car enthusiasts, the collection’s automobile offering counts over 430 lots and has an almost exclusive focus on performance, featuring a terrific series of rally, race, sports, GT and supercars,” RM Sotheby’s said in its news release.
Alloy-bodied 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C | Tim Scott Fluid Images“Leading the charge is a trio of highly desirable Ferraris: a rare, matching-numbers 275 GTB/6C Alloy; a desirable Plexiglas-headlight 365 GTB/4 Daytona; and an F40.
“Long hidden from public view, the 275 GTB is one of only nine cars originally fitted with alloy bodywork, six carburetors and torque tube.”
RM Sotheby’s said the collection includes cars from Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia as well as Porsche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and other luxury and GT automakers. The docket lists a 6,000-kilometer 2005 Maserati MC12 and a 1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V “Ufficiale,” a factory works rally car.
“We’re delighted to have been selected to bring this incredible collection to market,” Augustin Sabatie-Garat, RM Sotheby’s car specialist, said in the news release. “The diversity of the lots is especially exciting, from entry-level sports cars to the rarest and most desirable supercars in the world.
“These are cars that buyers today want and are actively hunting for. The fact that so many of them are being exposed to the world again after many years in hiding sets the stage for one of the coolest and most exciting auction events of not only 2016, but in RM’s history.

If you’re in the market for a Porsche 911, you’re in luck, with some 60 different examples offered without reserve. If a Jaguar E-type needs to land in your garage, the sale will feature a selection of 21 different examples. The list goes on and encompasses a tremendously diverse range of categories… it’s like an automotive Aladdin’s Cave.”
Among the motorcycles are bikes of all eras by BMW, Triumph and Ducati. The boats include historic Italian racing hydroplanes. Bicycles include those that have competed in the Tour de France races.
One of only 50 M12s, and just 8,000 miles on the odoRM Sotheby’s notes that the Duemila Ruote sale follows other single-collector sales it has done in Europe, including the sale of Bernie Ecclestone’s collection and of the Aalholm Automobil Museum in Denmark.
The Duemila Ruote sale will take place in Fiera Milano, a large convention hall.
