At the recent Retromobile collector car celebration in Paris, RM Sotheby’s displayed the Figoni et Falaschi-bodied 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS “Goute d’Eau” coupe that will star at the auction house’s Villa Erba sale May 27. Now, it has revealed two more star cars for the auction, which takes place in conjunction with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy.
Those cars are a 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Spider 4th series and a 1935 BugattiType 57 Atalante Prototype. Both fit into the “ultimate speed and style” theme for the auction. Also on the docket are a 1957 BMW Series I 507 roadster in sea green with red leather interior and a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari with 180 kilometers on its odometer.
The RM Sotheby’s news release promised that the Villa Erba sale will feature “the very best in decadent, stylish and pure-bred automobiles,” and the cars announced so far certainly fit that description.
The 1930 Alfa is chassis No. 8513001 and is the first fourth-series car produced and one of only two with bodywork by Carozzeria Sport S.A., the auction house reported. The car debuted with Baron Horst Von Waldthausen driving it to the 1932 Swiss Car Championship, and then Julio Villars took it to the European Hill Climb Championship.
After 48 years with one owner, the car underwent a complete restoration and was sold in 2007 to the consignor. It goes to auction with a pre-sale estimated value of €2.200.000 to €2.600.000 ($2.375 million to $2.8 million).
The 1937 Bugatti, chassis No. 57254, is one of only three prototypes. According to RM Sotheby’s, the car is one of the few bodied by Carrosserie Bugatti, delivered to factory driver Meo Costantini with a specially tuned engine.
It still shows only 26,000 kilometers traveled, which is believed to be its original mileage, the auction house noted. The pre-sale estimated value has been set at €2.800.000 to €3.200.000 ($3 million to $3.5 million).
The 1957 BMW, chassis No. 70044, is one of only 251 produced, retains its original engine and comes with a contrasting-color factory hardtop. It shows 73,000 original kilometers on its odometer and has a pre-sale estimated value of €1.700.000-€1.900.000 ($1.8 million to $2.05 million).
The Ferrari wears Rosso Corso over black, has the “nose-lift” kit and has recently been serviced despite its very low mileage. It’s pre-sale estimate is €2.650.00 to €3.200.000 ($2.85 million to $3.5 million).
The Villa Erba auction will include only 50 automobiles and a curated selection of vintage motorcycles. For additional details, see the RM Sotheby’s website.
