Going to Monterey Car Week? Curious about how to buy a car at one of the many collector car auctions? Or maybe you’re a veteran collector but are simply looking for some fresh insight about cars you’re considering.

Regardless, ClassicCars.com has a deal for you — and it’s free!

For the third year in a row, ClassicCars.com will offer free tours of three of the Monterey auction venues. This year as last, we’re partnering with Shriners Hospitals for Children in the effort.

As usual, two of the tours will be led by our resident ClassicCars.com auction analyst, collector car expert — who has owned dozens of various classic and exotic vehicles — and East Coast editor Andy Reid. He’s been leading such tours for a dozen years, originally for others but now on our behalf.

“My goal is to educate and entertain and empower people in the classic car hobby,” Reid said, “to show them how to buy at auction, what to look for, to talk about the market pace, how the auction companies work, and what to look for in certain cars.”

He also stressed that he’s not giving a lecture. His tours are very much a dialogue; he’s eager to answer any questions you might have.

At Monterey, Andy will lead a tour of vehicles available at the Bonhams auction at The Quail and of those at RM Sotheby’s sale in downtown Monterey. The Bonhams tour is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16. The RM Sotheby’s tour starts at noon on Thursday, August 17.

Our other ClassicCars.com Monterey auction tour will feature a veteran tour guide and a rookie. This tour takes place Tuesday, August 15, starting at 10 a.m. at the Mecum Auction venue at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel.

Leading the tour will be John Kraman, who is both a commentator for NBCSN’s coverage of the auctions and the consignment director for Mecum, so he not only has personality, but intimate knowledge of each of the vehicles.

Joining Kraman will be our own editorial director Larry Edsall, who usually shares what he knows in writing but is willing to talk about the auction marketplace as well.

All of the tours are offered free of charge, though you’ll take home a goodie bag — and a lot of knowledge about the collector car marketplace. To register, please fill out and submit this form.
