Artcurial Motorcars biennial Monaco auction posted $11.4 million in sales Sunday. On-the-block sales totaled $9.1 million for an auction that ran for five hours, but post-block transactions boosted the final figure.

The top sale of the auction was a 3-liter 1974 Porsche Carrera RSR that was purchased for slightly more than $2 million, including buyer’s fees. The car’ had a strong racing history in the United States, competing eight times in the 12-hour race at Sebring and seven times in the 24-hour at Daytona. Its pre-sale estimated value was $1.6 million to $1.8 million.

“The promising results of our new biennial sale for collectors’ cars demonstrate the Riviera’s potential to host auctions on an international scale,” Matthieu Lamoure, managing director of Artcurial Motorcars, was quoted in a news release.

“We are delighted with the reception we received from the residents of Monaco. We believe this venue is appealing to both sellers and buyers. We look forward to the next sale here in two years time.”

Artcurial reported 350 bidders among the auction room at the Grimaldi Forum.

Paris-based Artcurial claimed five world auction record prices at the sale, and noted that the $31,464 paid for a 1959 Fiat Nuova 500 convertible was nearly twice its pre-sale estimated value.

The auction started with three lots of automobilia, with Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari racing overalls selling for $10,374 and Ayron Senna’s motorcycle helmet bringing $23,028.
