Fuoriserie is an Italian word meaning “specially built” or even “outstanding.” It’s also the name of the new Pininfarina Fuoriserie.
But this new Fuoriserie doesn’t have four wheels, only two, because it’s a bicycle signed by Pininfarina for 43 Milano, a bespoke Italian bicycle maker.
Why is this of interest to readers of the ClassicCars.com blog? Because Pininfarina said the design was inspired by the carrozzeria’s designs of the 1930s and ‘40s and features the same interlaced leather that was used in the Pininfarina-designed and produced the 1936 Lancia Asturo Bocca.
Only six of those automobiles were built. The bicycle will be produced in a run of only 30, in honor of the 1930s and its design heritage.
“Pininfarina Fuoriserie bike boasts an undeniable Pininfarina DNA,” chairman Paolo Pininfarina said in a news release. “It blends our heritage with innovative solutions, it is elegant and exclusive but also highly functional. What is more, it’s a Fuoriserie with an eco-friendly soul.”
The bicycle will be available in two versions: Naked, with all propulsion provided by the rider’s legs and traditional pedals, and a Bike+ version with a small electric motor designed to provide a longer range. The motor also powers an LED lighting system and has a plug for charging a cellphone.
The Naked version is priced at $7,570 (6,000 euros) while the electric-aided model is $11,360 (9,000 euros).
The bikes have hand-welded, chromed-steel tubular chassis with a walnut briar-root coating. Bridge leather not only is used for the seat but is interlaced around the handlebars.
Custom travel bags made from the same laced Bridge leather are available with the bikes.
