There are certain cars that instantly make me think of Barrett-Jackson, which holds its three-day Palm Beach, Florida, collector-car auction starting today.
The Pick of the Week is one of those cars, an apparently pristine 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS convertible, which I must admit was one of the dream cars of my youth. Still is, I suppose.
This first-year Camaro looks stunning in the multiple photos supplied by the Des Moines, Iowa, classic car dealer advertising it on ClassicCars.com. The car looks brand new; the photos shot from underneath are particularly impressive, and the fresh-looking interior is all original, the dealer states.
“This beautiful RS convertible is a rare find and is rolling on brand new BFG white-letter tires and rally rims with short caps, and set the car off with the authentic look,” the dealer says in the ad description.
Power is provided by the car’s original 327-cid V8 with automatic transmission and 12-bolt Posi-Traction rear with a highway-cruisable 2.73 ratio. Though a four-speed manual would be much preferred, the automatic would not be a deal breaker for such a cool original Camaro RS convertible. The engine has been rebuilt, the dealer says, and the transmission is a 1969 unit that was replaced under the car’s original factory warranty.
An impressive list of original factory features makes this Camaro extra special, the dealer states.
“This is one of the highest-optioned Camaro convertibles we have ever had,” the description reads. “Most are optioned in the single digits. This car has 22 factory options. Yes 22!!!
“Another rare aspect to this car is that it still retains its original interior which is in amazing condition, which shows how meticulously it was maintained. The deluxe seats look like new. From the factory gauge package to the interior lighting, everything with the exception of the clock works as new.
“Paint is approximately five years old and is show quality. Body is straight as an arrow and verifies it was well taken care of.”
The asking price is pretty stout at $44,500, but if this Camaro RS is as exceptional as the dealer says and the photos seem to show, it would be worth it. As they say, go find another. And I’m sure that if this car rolled up on the Barrett-Jackson auction stage, bidding would be fast and furious.
“This is just an amazing car that you must see to appreciate. Drives as it did new,” the seller adds. “The previous owner showed the car last year and took home best of show honors!”
