If you have the hankering for a 1920s classic car, and one that is different and unusual enough to draw some attention, here’s a rare and handsome sedan with a twist.
As a major plus, the 1927 Willys-Overland Whippet 93A being offered for sale in a ClassicCars.com ad has what appears to be a strikingly affordable price tag, considering that it also seems to be in fine restored condition.
The seller, a national classic-car dealer, is asking just $14,995 for this spoke-wheeled veteran. The Whippet is located in the dealer’s Orlando, Florida, showroom, and is apparently ready to be taken out for a drive.
And here’s the twist: Not only is the Willys-Overland Whippet a rare find, this one is equipped with right-hand drive, which the Ohio automaker produced for the Australia and New Zealand markets. That should also be a head-turning feature for this cool old car.
The seller provides some history of the marque, which was highly popular during its era but largely forgotten these days.
“The Whippet was first manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, in late 1926,” the seller says in the ad. “The iconic name and statuesque radiator cap was a derivative from the whippet racing dog, which was considered solid yet speedy come race day. In fact, Willys Whippet was recorded at an average speed of 56.52 mph in a 24-hour endurance test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“The Whippet was an instant success, selling 110,000 units, second to Ford Motor Company, during its first year of inception.”
The car’s overall drivability also is touted by the seller, who notes that the Whippet “handles great in the corners and stops with ease with its four-wheel mechanical braking system.”
Power is provided by a 45-horsepower, six-cylinder engine with three-speed transmission. This car boasts a number of luxury embellishments, including “adjustable lumbar bench seat, exterior mount sun visor, adjustable front window, turn signals, courtesy dome light and rear mounted spare.”
If the Whippet turns out to be as original and nice-running as the seller claims, and looks as good in person as it does in the photos, then it appears to be quite a bargain for such a unique collector’s item.

I think that the car is way under priced! I have a ’27 Willys Overland Whippet model 96. It is an older restoration and I value the car at $12,500. I see that this is an older article and I’m sure some lucky guy/girl snatched it right up! That should have had a value of about $20k.
