Pick of the Day: 1989 Jeep Wrangler

With summer in full swing and Fourth of July this weekend, we’ve got ‘merica on our minds, and for those of us who want something a little more rugged than a pony, look no further. This 1989 Jeep Wrangler Tomahawk rock crawler is the perfect vehicle to take on any obstacle.

Just from looking at this Jeep, you can tell its not messing around. Along with massive ground clearance, the entire front fender section has been re-tubbed to carry enough suspension travel to overcome boulders. With even less fender restriction in the rear, all four wheels can handle separate elevations.

According to the seller, the Jeep’s Goodyear MT/R tires are reinforced with Kevlar, “so they are literally designed for bulletproof off-road performance.”

Conveniently, the parts you would scrape while out on your off-road adventure have been painted with an easily replaceable black color that, according to the seller, proves to complement to the electric blue body quite well along with the Ramsey 9500 winch mounted up front.

The interior was customized with the driver in mind. According to the seller, there’s a full set of AutoMeter gauges that provides information on the motor, the fuel cell does not intrude on the full standard Wrangler , and the convertible top still fits over the full custom roll cage. Within the center console is a booming Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo that’s connected to amplified speakers. Also onboard is a CB and PA system.

687331_20584313_1989_Jeep_Wrangler+rock+crawlerPowering this Jeep is a 300-horsepower 5.9-liter V8. According to the seller, upgrades include an electronic fuel injection system, performance air induction, ceramic coated headers, and a massive Power Master 155-amp alternator.

“This is mated to a three-speed automatic with a 2,000 rpm stall converter specially built by TCI performance and B&M,” the seller says. “The extra power is handled by a NP241 two-speed transfer case. With all of this heavy-duty equipment, the axles were upgraded to be up for any task.”

The front and rear axels are Dana 60s adapted from a 1-ton Dodge Ram. Both are running 35-spline axles with a Yukon locker front and Detroit locker rear.

According to the seller, the builder knew the front wheels might get stuck, so a full PSC power steering stystem with variable-ratio steering box was installed.

Extras on the Jeep include an on-board air compressor and a full LED lighting system under the vehicle so you can easily spot obstacles under the Jeep.

This Jeep is being sold on the ClassicCars.com site by a dealership in Charlotte, North Carolina and is being offered for $27,995. The seller says there are many more upgrades and modifications on the Jeep than those listed online and would be happy to provide additional photos or more information upon request.
