1986 Porsche 944

With news of the Porsche Speedster “barn-find” buzzing throughout the office, I couldn’t help but feature a Porsche as my pick of the day. With performance and style always on my mind, I set out to find the perfect Porsche on ClassicCars.com and found this beautiful 1986 Porsche 944.

The bright red paint covered with Shell race decals and livery caught my eye even before I noticed that huge wing on the rear and tastefully done fender flairs.

Fresh from updates and freshening by 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans winners Jim Busby

According to the seller, this car was taken from stock to its current track-ready state by the hands of Jim Busby, former Porsche factory driver well-known for his racing in Mazdas in events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans.

The seller says Busby bought the car “two to three years ago as a fun toy to mess with. After the updates and freshening it up he’s ready to sell it and move onto another project.”

The very best parts and pieces have been assembled by some of the beat technicians in the world, the seller says, and the attention to detail has resulted in this impeccably clean and well-engineered car.

Modifications to the Porsche 944 include a Motech engine management system installed by Busby Racing to maximize the performance and longevity of the engine. According to the seller, the car has been tuned on the chassis dynometer at Vision Motorsports and produces over 450 horsepower at the rear wheels.

Hours of fine tuning went into the handling and balance of this car at Willow Springs and Laguna Seca

Busby and Rick Knoop have spent hours fine-tuning the car’s handling and balance at Willow Springs and Laguna Seca to assure it is a very enjoyable and docile track car that over performs.

With the purchase of this track car, the buyer gets two binders containing receipts, descriptions, and set-up notes for all the components on the car. The car also has a clean title and is being offered for $52,500 at a dealership in Laguna Beach, California.

Editorial Note: This vehicle has recently been sold.
