We’ve written a lot at Classic Car News about “future classics,” cars we think are going to escalate in value. Among them, perhaps even foremost among them, are the Datsun Z cars.
But this particular 1977 Datsun 280Z was selected as Pick of the Day not so much because it is an unrestored original with automatic transmission and nearly 175,000 miles on its odometer, but because of its story.
The “original owner is my mother, who drove it locally,” the seller in Chino, California, says in the advertisement for the car on ClassicCars.com.
“It has rack and pinion steering which is too hard for her to steer now that she is 80 years old, so the time has come to let it go,” the text in the ad continues.
“The odometer had gone around once. She has kept it garaged and the interior is naturally worn. It runs good and there aren’t any dents or accidents.”
The advertisement notes that the car remains original, that the seller’s mother kept up with all maintenance, which included installing new fuel injection and a new gas tank “and whatever else was needed along the way.”
“She loved this car and took very good care of it.”
The seller admits that, “The front spoiler is worn” (and photos show the details). However, the seller adds, “the shade kit on back window is great and it is made of metal.”
The car is white with a tan interior, air conditioned and with an AM/FM radio.
The asking price is $7,500 or best offer for a Mom’s car that would be nice to preserve.
