1971 Porsche 911T

The 1971 Porsche 911T recently received a $20,000 restoration, the seller claims

After attending the festivities in Monterey for a week, we thought it was time for a more-sensibly priced sports car, so for Pick of the Day, we have a car that is always hot in Monterey, the fabled Porsche 911.

This one is a 1971 Porsche 911T located in Miami, Florida, and it features a newly rebuilt matching numbers 2.2 liter engine and a numbers-matching gearbox, the seller claims in the ClassicCars.com listing.

Early 911s have been soaring in value over the past few years

The owner just finished a restoration to the tune of more than $20,000, according to the ad, and the car includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity to back up the matching-numbers claim, which makes it look like a great entry into the world of early 911s.

The asking price for this Porsche is reasonable at $66,900, but it looks like a veritable bargain compared with the many lesser 911s that sold at auction last week in Monterey for considerably more money.

Over the past three years, early 911s such as this one have commanded serious money at auction, many changing hands for more than $200,000. We saw a number of these cars change hands last week well in excess of $100,000.

The owner chose to preserve the original interior instead of replacing it in order to keep the car as original as possible, the ad says, and it looks to be in very nice original shape with appealing patina. The car is stated to be rust free and said to start and drive with no issues.

The original interior looks to be in decent shape

The early 911s are wonderful sports cars and are the original versions of the mythic rear-engine 911 that has carried on through today. These cars rarely disappoint, and this one sounds to be a car that you could drive and enjoy with few issues.

One of the best things about 911s is their incredible reliability, due to constant development by Porsche to ensure success in endurance racing. This makes for probably the most reliable sports cars ever created.

In competition, the drivers’ roster for 911 race cars reads like a veritable who’s who of auto racing, including such greats as Elford, Bell and Heywood, to name a few. History like this is what makes the 911 likely to remain one of the most desirable and popular of all sports cars.
