With the start of August a few days away, I cringe at the thought of endless Arizona summer days with temperatures hot enough to bake cookies inside your car. Fortunately, adventure is on the horizon and I can’t help but daydream about cruising the streets of Reno during Hot August Nights or sightseeing along the Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey.
Of course, to do either, you would need the right classic car, and a convertible at that.
The interior of the GTO is trimmed in woodThe Pick of the Day, and the car for summer road trips in a perfect world, is a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible adorned with sparking white paint. Listed on ClassicCars.com, this particular GTO convertible is powered by a rebuilt, numbers-matching 400/360 horsepower HO engine with the correct Quadrajet carburetor, the seller says, mated to a Hurst 4-speed manual transmission.
Giving the black vinyl interior a splash of color is a set of in-dash rally gauges, a wooden sport steering wheel, shift knob and console trim. The car has power disc brakes, power steering and Red Line radial tires, in addition to a new convertible top.
The private seller in Kildeer, Illinois, says the paint, body and interior are all exceptional and the car has been “adult owned” for 20 years. The GTO the car has been fully restored, the seller says, and the odometer reads 9,500 miles, presumably since restoration.
Listed for $59,900, the seller adds that the car runs and drives as expected of a “no-excuse, no-disappointment, investment-quality car.”
