The Pick of the Day is a restored and resto-modded 1967 Plymouth Barracuda coupe that looks like it was done right, with performance upgrades for power and drivability.
The private seller in Port St. Lucie, Florida, says in the ClassicCars.com advertisement that the car was completely disassembled for restoration in 2010 and is now completed and ready to go.
“I built this car for pleasure but also to make much-more reliable power,” the seller says in the ad. “I owned the body shop that did the work and oversaw all work that was performed.”
The second-generation Barracuda is often overshadowed by its successor, which had more-extreme styling and includes the Holy Grail models powered by the 426 Hemi V8. But these earlier ones are good-looking coupes with nice details and good proportions, and I think they are just about right. Actually, my favorite era for Mopar products in general.
This one seems like a totally solid car that could be driven and enjoyed, as well as shown with pride. The seller says that during restoration, the car had “all paint removed, minor flaws repaired and a beautiful paint job was done.”
“All rubbers were replaced, suspension was rebuilt using all new big block parts and urethane bushings,” the ad continues. “Custom sway bars are installed front and back as well as frame stiffeners welded in place. New Enkie 18″ wheels and Yokohama tires make this car handle. Interior is almost all original with an aftermarket dash panel face.
“For power, it has a 360 block punched to 364 cid. Internals are scat rods and Keith Black pistons, high-lift cam, Edelbrock aluminum heads and airgap intake with 600 carb. 10.25:1 compression for street use. This was built locally at Blockhead and has approx. 800 miles on the build.
“Power goes through a rebuilt 727 auto with 2100 rpm stall and a Gear Vendors 4-speed over/under drive unit for highway cruising. 323 gears with traction lock are in an 8 1/4 housing. Vintage Air A/C was installed as was a fully upgraded cooling system to handle our Florida summers. Power steering and Wilwood front disc conversion make it easy to drive, while listening to a 7-speaker, dual-amp sound system.”
The Barracuda is priced at $23,800, which the seller says is “truly a great deal.” I concur.
