1967 Chrysler Newport convertible

For the 1967 model year, Chrysler restyled its Newport model line with a new grille, new deck lid and tail treatment, and bodyside panels including a slight but distinctive kickout around the rear wheel.

The Pick of the Day is one of the only 2,891 1967 Chrysler Newport convertibles produced that year. According to the advertisement on ClassicCars.com, the car has been based in Middle Tennessee since it was new.

The private seller reports in the ad that the car has a “solid” body and that the 383 cid V8 “runs like a top.”

“The interior is in very good condition and was restored using the original pattern… the top is solid and the motor to raise/lower it works well and the top will keep you dry should the need arise,” the seller says.

The car has an automatic transmission, power brakes and steering, and its engine has been rebuilt. In addition to its AM/FM radio, the audio system is Bluetooth-capable (the new technology hidden away in the glove box, the ad notes).

The asking price is $17,000 (or best offer), which the seller says is based on the Hagerty Price Guide’s value of a car in this condition, and even includes the URL link to that resource.

In this condition?

While it was the car’s beautifully blue appearance in the dozen photographs that are part of the advertisement that drew us to it, what really impressed us was the seller’s admission that while the car is in good running condition, there are issues the buyer will need to address somewhere down the road.

“Paint only needs some minor touch ups and two small crack repairs,” the seller notes before addressing other issues.

“Some future projects: New float for the gas tank (gas gauge does not work). A new blower motor for heat and air. Brakes are touchy and will stop you on a dime, but the calipers may need replacing down the road. In the future; a new wiring harness in the dash, but necessary electrical components (wiper, headlights, directionals, hazard lights) work well. Needs a headlight switch. Carpeting is looking older, though in good shape. The boot has a tear in the seam and is missing one snap.”
