Summer has arrived, the perfect time for top-down motoring, and one of the best ways to enjoy the wind-in-your-hair experience of a real sports car is behind the wheel of an MG.
The MGA roadster is considered by many to be among the most beautiful of all British roadsters. Amazingly, MGAs are still quite affordable.
The MGA is possibly the best mix of vintage and a modern roadster. It offers a vintage sweeping design, an interior in leather that even a 6-foot-plus driver can be comfortable in and enough power to keep up with modern traffic with ease.
Combine that with inexpensive running costs, parts prices and a mechanical design that is simple to maintain and you have a recipe for a classic car that will not devour your bank account.
This 1961 MGA roadster for Pick of the Day seems like a well-sorted driver that has the added bonus of a later and more desirable, not to say more powerful, 1600 cc engine under the bonnet. It also features wire wheels and no rust, the seller says.
According to the seller on ClassicCars.com, the car has had a recent quality respray in its original color of Old English White and is ready for the road. It also includes the top and side curtains. He also states that the former owner recently rebuilt the suspension, brakes, replaced the wood floorboards and fitted a new exhaust system.
Prices for nice examples of the MGA have been on the climb recently, although this one for sale in Stratford, Connecticut, has an asking price of only $27,500. If you have always wanted a classic British roadster, I would recommend buying it now or paying more later as values continue to rise.
