You have to be interested when the advertisement for a vehicle on ClassicCars.com starts, “My ex-husband was a car guy…”
And especially when the ad ends with a note that the car’s “color perfectly matches a box from Tiffany’s…”
Intrigued, I read the words in between, looked at the photos and submit as Pick of the Day this 1959 AMC Rambler American Super, which is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
So the private seller’s story goes that the car was “a bribe so I would go to more car shows.” Turned out, she loved the shows, and the old cars, although she admits to having no mechanical skills, “which is pretty much a requirement when you own one.”
Notice, she adds, that she said “ex-husband.”
“Since I can’t afford the time to learn how to wrench on cars, I’m out of the car show game and need to afford my mortgage. This little baby needs a new home and I need some money.”
The advertisement notes that the car has its original 6-cylinder engine, 3-speed manual, wears Chatsworth Green (or Tiffany Blue to some eyes) paint and has a new grey-and-white cloth interior, as well as new glass and door and seals all around, a Bluetooth compatible stereo system, new battery and electronic ignition, as well as “good” radial tires.
The car reportedly has been “garage kept.”
The photo of the engine shows a carburetor without an air cleaner. “A friend of mine put that on there so that it would be easy for me to start so I can get it sold,” the seller notes. “The original carburetor and air filter are in the trunk.”
“So,” she adds, “if any of you car guys are looking for a way to get your wife to happily go to more car shows with you — here it is!”
Asking price for a cute but not perfect vintage coupe is $5,300.

Had a four or five year old one in the early 60s. It got me and my wife and two young daughters around just fine. I recall that it cost me $600.
