With all the nosebleed prices that will be kicking around this weekend at the Arizona auctions, which can be pretty depressing for us regular folk, I thought it would be a good idea to present a Pick of the Day that is quite affordable while still being cool and desirable.
This 1955 Ford Fairlane is described by the Whiteland, Indiana, classic car dealer as fully restored, and it’s outfitted with retro accessories that should appeal to old-school cruisers. This look has come back strong among younger hobbyists who embrace the rockabilly culture, as well as older nostalgic collectors.
According to the sparse description in the ClassicCars.com listing, the two-door Fairlane is powered by its original 292 cid V8, which has been rebuilt and feeds its power to the rear wheels through a Ford-O-Matic three-speed transmission.
The photos show a gleaming red rod with dramatic fender skirts, dummy lake pipes, spotlights, custom mirrors, protruding dual exhaust pipes and a hot-looking continental-kit spare. There’s even a one-hand spinner-knob clamped onto the steering wheel.
The black-and-white interior looks fresh and the dashboard gauges are clear. The paint job looks clean with decent bodywork, at least from what I can tell from the numerous photos. Seems ready for a cruise up Main Street.
But one of the best features is the asking price, a modest $12,900, which just about anybody could afford.
So rest easy. Despite all the high-flying big spenders in Scottsdale, there are still good vintage cars out there that are priced within the realm of reason.
