‘Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!”
But if you looked at the ground during the days of the 1950s black-and-white television series, you likely saw a car much like our Pick of the Day, a 1953 Nash Ambassador, except the TV version was being driven by Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen and sometimes even by Clark Kent (aka Superman) himself.
Our pick is being advertised on ClassicCars.com for $7,500. The car is in Romney, West Virginia.
“This car is in excellent condition, runs and drives beautifully,” assures the private seller. “I purchased car from the son of a friend. His grandfather had given him the car and he lost interest.
“The car has had a tremendous amount of maintenance work done, and some years ago over $6,000 worth of paint work. Some parts that were originally chrome have been painted a soft, metallic silver.
“It appears to be very solid and everything working as it should. The engine runs smoothly. The car has overdrive and a heater and I think that’s about it.”
The seller adds that the original owner’s manual in the car appears to indicate that the car was sold new in Bedford, Pennsylvania.

The car is black with a gray interior, has its original Jetfire six-cylinder engine (rated at the time at 120 horsepower), a manual transmission and shows 56,000 miles on its odometer. The ad doesn’t mention power steering, though it was a new feature in that era.
The seller reports that after sitting since last summer, the car started up and went for a nice drive in late January.
