I find the vehicle fascinating and its advertisement infuriating.
The Pick of the Day is a 1953 Chevrolet pickup, at least that’s how it’s advertised on ClassicCars.com, where the Vehicle Description reads:
“454 engine behind cab, power everything, 1200 winch in bed.”
That’s it? Ten words about a vehicle that must have a fascinating history, and a vehicle that seems to be to be the ideal vehicle to drive to Monterey Car Week or to any other collector car event for that matter?
You see, as you do when you look at the photos, this isn’t just any 1953 Chevrolet pickup truck. It’s a racecar-style hauler with a slant bed designed for carrying another vehicle.
Does it have racing history? What’s is its story? The advertisement doesn’t tell us, just that it has been restored, has gray cloth interior, an automatic transmission and runs.
Oh, and the truck is in Sherwood, Arkansas, and the asking price is $37,500.
So why would it be the ideal vehicle for Monterey Car Week? Well, for one thing, you might be able to talk your way into any car-show parking lot — if not onto the show field. For another, if you go to an auction and raise your hand at the right time, you’re all set to carry your new vehicle back home.
Even if you don’t buy something, you might get hired to carry someone else’s newest collectible car to their home, maybe even get paid enough to cover a night or two at car week’s jacked-up hotel room prices.
