It’s a new year, so maybe it’s time for a new you. Maybe you finally quit that job you hate in pursuit of something fun, put down that pack of cigarettes, maybe you revamp your wardrobe, join a gym, go on a juice cleanse, or pick up a new hobby.
This is your year and if you happen to be a lucky resident of Amsterdam, you might get some inspiration for a new look from photographer Max Siedentopf, and his new hobby of “customizing” strangers’ cars.
Each night, Siedentopf cruises up and down the streets of Amsterdam looking for the most average cars he can find. Without knowing the owner or the owner’s tastes, he takes it upon himself to quickly apply custom fenders, wings and hood scoops with his trusty tools – a few pieces of cardboard and some masking tape.
After the custom work is done to the various Peugeots, Lancias and Volkswagens, Siedentopf takes a photo of his masterpiece, leaving the pimped ride for the owners to discover the following day.
So why does he leave perfect strangers with customized supercars? To this he said, “Individuality, self-expression, and status are more important than ever these days. But for some reason you see that things as ordinary as cars are getting personalized less and less, while it could be a strange but great form of self-expression.
“I thought I’d do people a favor by giving them a custom-made supercar.”
