The 1965 Dino 206 P Berlinette Speciale, Pininfarina’s design prototype for what would become the Ferrari Dino, will be offered up for bidding early in 2017 at Artcurial Motorcars’ Retromobile sale, scheduled for February 10 in Paris.

The car, designed by Leonard Fioravanti, made its debut at the 1965 Paris Motor Show. The one-off concept was commissioned by Enzo Ferrari and was built on a 206P type 585 tubular chassis (No. 0840). Fioravanti’s design marked the launch of a new styling language at Ferrari that would include the Dino 206 and 246 GT as well as the Ferrari 308, 328 and 288 GTO.

“The Dino’s body, all curves, fits this competition 206 chassis like a couture dress fits an elegant woman,” Matthieu Lamoure, Artcurial Motorcars managing director, said in a news release.

The design includes concave side air intakes and front fenders and rear backlight that would become part of the production version of the car.

With agreement from Ferrari himself, Sergio Pininfarina offered the car to the Musee de l’automobile at Le Mans, where it has been on display since April 1967. The car is being sold to benefit the museum and its collection, Artcurial said.
