It's never too late

I ran into this truck while pheasant hunting back in 1973 on a farm of my dad’s friends near Dumas, Texas. In the summer of 1974, I purchased this truck for $100 when I had just graduated from high school. I brought it home, tore it apart, and restored the wooden body frame and engine. That’s how it remained until 2 years ago.

I stopped working on it, then met and married the love of my life. After that, life got so busy I never had time or money to put it back together. We moved several times and the body parts moved with us, but the frame sat out in the weather for around 40 years. All of the wooden cab parts were destroyed by termites during its long storage.

I used this opportunity to rebuild the original wooden areas out of steel. I modified the cab by adding 5 inches of length to it. I boxed the frame, added a new model A front hairpin and a 400-horsepower small-block Chevy. I built a pickup bed for it out of the original flatbed frame. After two years of not getting out much because of Covid, I finally completed my almost 50 year project.

  1. While I’m more of a purist restorer I still enjoy a well-done resto-mod and this one is in the top of the picks. Looks great! Having some projects in my stable that have carried on for 50+ years I understand how long one of these takes. Hope you have many enjoyable miles.

  2. “Patience is a virtue, as rewarding as a new love in spring.” One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite musical groups of the late 60s and early 70s: POCO.

Your ’29 Int’l truck is tribute to some remarkable patience…and some ingenuity. Beautiful color!
