Movie and new exhibits at automotive museums this weekend

Tonight the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon, features movie night with Cars. Movies are on the big screen in the main indoor gallery and start at 7 p.m. Prices are $2.50 for members and $8 for non-members. The final movie will be December 11, Talladega Nights.

Saturday,  the museum unveils its first new exhibit since its opening in April. Women in Racing   showcases the rise and triumph of women in motorsports and highlights women’s participation during the past few decades. Cindi Lux, a 12-time road racing champion, will be in attendance to sign autographs.

On December 31, the museum celebrates New Year’s Eve and is open from 9  p.m. to 2 a.m. Attendies will be able to play and win prizes at the museums Victory Lap Casino, dance with music by DJ Clint Kuper, , enjoy drinks, chocolates and a photo booth, and more.

The Studebaker National Museum opens a new exhibit today  that will run through October 3, 2016. The exhibit, Hoosier Made: World Driven will look at the heyday of Indiana’s automobile industry and will show vehicles from the brass era, jazz era and the classic era.

The museum is raffling off several 2015 cars and SUVs. Cars being raffled include a Toyota Camry SE, Volkswagen Passat 1.8T, Lexus CT Hybrid, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4×4 and Ford Escape Titanium. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or over the phone until 5 p.m. December 8. The drawing takes place at 6 p.m. on December 8.

 The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, will offer sleigh rides in Santa’s Corvette on Saturday.

The Blackhawk Museum continues its Fall Speaker series on December 5 with Bill Warner as he presents “The Cars of Cuba, a Dream or a Nightmare;” and December 12, Danny Sullivan presents “Spin and Win – the 1985 Indy 500.”

The AACA Museum will have a “Cars and Christmas” display running from Saturday through January 3. The display will feature decorated trees, model train displays, special vehicles, and other holiday fun.

From November 27 through January 2, the America on Wheels museum will have model trains stationed around the museum’s galleries. December 4 the museum is holding its 8^th annual “Night of the White Glove” moonlight memories Gala. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. and is $80 per member, or $150 per couple.

The Simeone Automotive Foundation Museum in Philadelphia is  accepting votes to pick the cars they will demonstrate at the next Demo Day, November 28. Dubbed the “people choice,” the online votes from museum goers will choose which cars will be demonstrated.

The Heritage Motor Centre in England offers a series of lectures and workshops, which continues on November 29, with a presentation called “The story of our gas turbine car.”

The Gilmore Car Museum’s exhibit, American Legends: Hot Rods and Customs closes November 30. The exhibit is filled with some of the best hot rods of the 40s, 50s, and 60s, including the 1941 Ford Purple Tail Dragger.

“Car Classic” kicks off the DriveLA event season hosted by the Peterson Automotive Museum, followed by the Breakfast Club Cruise-in on November 8, Mecum Auctions November 12, LA Auto show preview party November 19, with the LA Auto Show taking place November 20-29, Honda Museum on November 24, McQueen Rally November 25, Tesla Tech day on November 26, Live car stories broadcast November 27, Motor4Toys charity drive on December 6, and finally, the Petersen Automotive Museum Preview Day on December 6.

Back by popular demand… with a twist… based on the enthusiastic response received from thousands of visitors, the American Muscle: Rivals to the End exhibit at LeMay – America’s Car Museum has been extended with an entirely new set of muscle cars in American Muscle: Modi­fied Madness. Modifi­ed Madness is about “resto-mod” muscle cars from 1964 – 1972 that have been contemporized in appearance and/or performance. The new Modified Madness exhibit will be opening to the public on December 11.
