We are quick to criticize Detroit automakers for not making more of their heritage as the Motor City, especially compared to their European counterparts which have beautiful museums that celebrate their automaking history and which also regularly participate in vintage car events and shows.

So we should be just as quick to praise Motown when it does show appreciation for its place in the automotive landscape. Thus we share the schedule for the eighth annual Autopalooza, a series of cruises, races and automotive showcases in Detroit and the surrounding area in 2017.

Here is the schedule:

April 22-24 — Shell Eco-marathon Americas, with students from the Western Hemisphere taking part in a event to see who can drive the farthest on the least amount of fuel.
June 3-5 — Chevrolet Detroit Bell Isle Grand Prix weekend with Indycar and IMSA racing.
June 10-12 — Firekeepers Cassino 400 NASCAR weekend at Brooklyn, Michigan.
June 18 — Eastpointe Gratiot Cruise.
June 18-19 — Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn.
June 19 — EyesOn Design concours at Grosse Pointe Shores.
June 25 — Cruisin’ Downriver in souther Wayne County.
June 25-26 — Sloan Museum Auto Fair, Flint.
July 29-31 — Concours d’Elegance of America, Plymouth, Michigan.
August 7 — Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise.
August 16-20 — Back to the Bricks weekend, Flint.
August 20 — Woodward Dream Cruise.
August 26-28 — PureMichigan 400 NASCAR weekend at Brooklyn, Michigan.
August 28 — Cruisin’ Hines, Westland, Michigan.
September 10-11 — Old Car Festival, Greenfield Village, Dearborn.
September 18 — Orphan Car Show, Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Autopalooza is coordinated by the MotorCities National Heritage Area and the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.
