With $2.4 million (Australian) in sales, Mossgreen’s recent sale of collector cars, motorcycles and automobilia claims the title as the highest by dollar value classic car auction in the Southern Hemisphere in 2016. In U.S. dollars, the auction did $1.79 million.

Prices for several of the vehicle set Australian auction records, including $546,250 ($408,240) for a 1971 Ferrari Dino 248 GT Berlinetta coupe, $281,500 ($210,380) for a 1938 Lancia Astura cabriolet by Pinin Farina, $218,500 ($163,295) for a 1934 Lagonda M45 Rapide, $192,625 ($143,960) for a 1963 Lancia Flaminia 2.8 GT coupe by Touring, and $69,000 ($50,820) for a 1922 Hotchkiss Type AB Series 1. (Prices include buyer’s premium.)

The Lagonda had been owned by the same family for 82 years.

Another highlight of the auction was the sale of a 1957 Molina Monza racer powered by a supercharged Holden “Grey” engine with Repco head. The car brought $241,500 ($180,485).
