Leake Auction Company opened its 2017 sales calendar last week, posting more than $10.4 million in sales with a 79 percent sell-through in the new Bennett Event Center at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
“We could not have asked for a better start to 2017,” Richard Sevenoaks, Leake president, said in a news release after the auction that launched Leake’s 45th year in the collector car auction business.
2014 Shelby GT3500 Mustang on the block“The Bennett Event Center is a spectacular facility and we received a lot of positive comments about it,” he continued. “We offered several large collections, which created a lot of excitement and we presented an outstanding line-up.
“The Leaded Gas Classics Collection brought in many new buyers who were onsite as well as bidding online through IronPlanet. We sold cars to customers in Australia, France, Mexico, and New Zealand.”
The sale featured 50 cars, selling at no reserve, from Jim McLane’s Leaded Gas Classics collection in Alabaster, Alabama. The four top four sales in the auction all were cars from that collection.
The collection’s 2006 Ford GT topped all cars, selling for $341,000 (prices reported include buyer’s premium). Next came a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, purchased for $209,000, a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Mustang at $154,000 and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda at $148,500.
