Leake Auction Company’s new partnership with high-end online auction house Proxibid drew bidders from seven foreign countries to Leake’s second annual Dallas auction last weekend.
“This is only the second year for our spring auction and we exceeded our sales goals,” said Leake president Richard Sevenoaks. “Our new relationship with Proxibid proved to be very successful and we are looking forward to expanding our online bidding platform.”
With access to a broader base of bidders, the sale drew bids from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Spain, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates, Leake said. A 1990 Ferrari Testarossa was sold to a Spanish bidder for $64,000. Leake reported that 382 people, in the United States and overseas, registered for the auction through Proxibid.
The auction did $6.3 million in sales with 64 percent of the 417 vehicles offered being sold.
The high-dollar sale of the three-day auction was $231,000 paid (including buyer’s premium) for a 2006 Ford GT with less than 3,000 miles on its odometer. Although the car had a clean title and CarFax report, Leake said on its website, “The car is believed to have been in a collision and repaired.”

In addition to the online boost, “The results of this auction validate the strength of the collector-car market in Texas,” Sevenoaks added.
Leake’s next sale is June 5-7 at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
