For the first time in the history of Mecums Auctions, the final consignment of the day posted the high sale of the day Tuesday when a 1995 Porsche 933 cabriolet sold for $81,000 at the Mecum sale in Kissimmee, Florida.

The sales total for the Porsche placed it among the top 10 at the Kissimmee auction that began January 15 and continues through Sunday. Other top sales Tuesday included a 1937 Ford roadster street rod and 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, each selling for $46,000 (Mecum announces hammer prices that do not include auction fees).

Relatively late-model collectibles drew the highest bids on the opening weekend of the auction, which featured Road Art (automobilia) sales Monday. The action and the prices are expected to escalate through the remainder of the sale as it builds toward its “Monumental Muscle” themed second weekend.

Featured consignments for Wednesday include a 1956 Ford F100 pickup, a 1954 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1966 Shelby GT350H Ford Mustang, a 1990 Ferrari Testarossa and a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

With some 3,000 vehicles scheduled to cross the block, Mecum’s Kissimmee sale at Osceola Heritage Park is the largest volume classic and collector car auction in the world.

The auction is being televised by the NBC Sports Network.
