Highlighted by what is believed to be only the fifth public sale of a Ferrari LaFerrari, Leake Auction Company’s Dallas spring event posted $10.3 million in sales with a 66 percent sell-through rate last weekend in Dallas Market Hall.
The sale of a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari for $3.7 million was the obviously highlight of an event that concluded with a party for bidders and consignors at the Gas Monkey Live bar and grill.
“The crowd was buzzing when the 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari pulled up on the turntable,” Richard Sevenoaks, Leake’s president, said in a news release. “It is a stunning vehicle that is extremely rare, generating more excitement than any car we have ever sold.
“This is only the fifth time one has been available in an auction and we are very pleased with its performance.”
The exotic Italian hybrid is one of only 500 produced and was sold with less than 600 miles on its odometer. The $3.7 million price, which includes the buyer’s fees, was the most ever paid at a Leake sale.
“Mr. Leake (Sevenoaks’ father-in-law) would be proud of the many accomplishments we have made since our inception in 1972,” Sevenoaks added. “We have come a long way since we started on a strip of grass in Muskogee, Oklahoma!”
The auction docket also included about 40 cars from the collection of David and Laura Williams, founders of the Fast Lane Classic Cars dealership.
“We were honored to offer a beautiful selection of cars from the David and Laura Williams Collection,” Sevenoaks added. “David is well-known throughout the industry for the caliber of cars he collects.”
Also selling, for $19,525, was a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro racing car consigned by Gas Monkey Garage owner Richard Rawlings. The car had been Brewster Baker’s ride in the 1980s movie Six Pack.
