No surprise: British classics were bidders’ favorites at Barons recent Connoisseurs Classic Car Collection auction at England’s Sandown Park. A bright-red 1970 Jaguar E-type Series 2 fixed-head coupe topped the sale with a 1964 Jensen CV8 just behind.
The Jag sold for £51,700 ($67,595) while the Jensen brought £49,000 ($64,065).
But the third-highest sale might have been something of a surprise: It was a pale yellow 1966 Ford Mustang fastback with a 302cid V8 engine that sold for £23,650 ($30,920).
Also at the auction, Queen guitarist Brian May raised more than
£6,300 ($8,235) for Save Me, an animal charity, when he sold the 1952 Jowett Javelin he’d purchased 35 years earlier for his father.
“As per last year, the aim of our Connoisseurs Classic Car Collection sale is to offer a smaller selection of high-quality cars, and we were certainly able to achieve that” Tim Gascoigne, Barons auction manager, said in a news release.
“The hall was full of interesting and top-quality cars, and we’ve received some great feedback from customers. We’re a family-run business that prides itself on honesty, integrity and great service, and the marketplace certainly seems to be reacting positively to that now.”
Barons next sale is scheduled for September 16, at the Kempton Park race course. The auction will be the company’s annual Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Car sale.
