Holiday celebrations at automotive museums this weekend

Today, December 4, the America on Wheels museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania, stages its 8th annual “Night of the White Glove” moonlight memories gala. The event take places from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and costs $80 per member or $150 per couple.

While touching the museum’s cars is usually prohibited, at the white glove night, guests are issued white gloves and encouraged to experience cars from the Art Deco collection hands on.

Then, through  January 2, the museum will have model trains stationed around the museum’s galleries on display.

Also today,  the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile museum in Auburn, Indiana, kicks off its holiday season with “Martinis & Mistletoe.” The event,  from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., will include drinks, hors d’oeuvres, music, and an after-hours tour of the museum.

The museum also has a new exhibit that will run through October 3, 2016. “Hoosier Made: World Driven” will look at the heyday of Indiana’s automobile industry and will show vehicles from the brass era, jazz era and the classic era.

Also today, the National Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, holds its last track day of the year. Experiences can be purchased online or at the museum. Attendees will have the option to do hot laps, trackX, touring laps, or parade laps.

The Blackhawk Museum, in Danville, California, continues its Fall Speaker series December 5 with Amelia Island concours founder Bill Warner as he presents “The Cars of Cuba, a Dream or a Nightmare;. On December 12, racing champion Danny Sullivan presents “Spin and Win – the 1985 Indy 500.”

Early in 2016 the museum will stage two “Cars and Coffee” events, the first event is set to take place on January 3, while the second event is a collaboration with Silicon Valley Auto Show in San Jose on January 10. Both events will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

On December 5, it’s Ladies Day at the Kansas City Auto museum in Olathe, Kansas, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with $5 admission. Visitors also receive complimentary wine and snacks.

Sunday, December 6, the Owls Head Transportation museum in Maine offers free admission. Reindeer will be set up and attendees can enjoy a reading of a Christmas story. Also on December 6 is the  annual holiday event with letter writing, ornament crafting, cookie decorating and coloring stations. Santa will arrive in the museums 1978 Piper Super Club plane at noon.

December 6 is the Toys for Tots car show at the Muscle Car City museum in Punta Gorda, Florida, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Car show entry is an unwrapped toy, and the first 200 participants will receive a dash plaque.

The World of Speed museum in Wilsonville, Oregon, has been showing movies on the big screen in the main indoor gallery. The final movie for the year is scheduled December 11, showing Talladega Nights at 7 p.m. Prices are $2.50 for members and $8 for non-members.

Back by popular demand… with a twist… based on the enthusiastic response received from thousands of visitors, theAmerican Muscle: Rivals to the End exhibit at LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington, has been extended with an entirely new set of muscle cars in American Muscle: Modified Madness. Modified Madness is about “resto-mod” muscle cars from 1964 – 1972 that have been contemporized in appearance and/or performance. The new Modified Madness exhibit will be opening to the public on December 11.

On December 31, the museum celebrates New Year’s Eve and is open from 9  p.m. to 2 a.m. Attendees will be able to play and win prizes at the museums Victory Lap Casino, dance with music by DJ Clint Kuper, enjoy drinks, chocolates and a photo booth.

The Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, Indiana, is raffling off several 2015 cars and SUV, including a Toyota Camry SE, Volkswagen Passat 1.8T, Lexus CT Hybrid, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4×4 and Ford Escape Titanium. Tickets can be purchased until 5 p.m. December 8, when the drawing takes place at 6 p.m.

The AACA Museum will have a “Cars and Christmas” display  through January 3. The display features decorated trees, model train displays, special vehicles, and other holiday fun.

The Gilmore Car Museum in Michigan begins  a new lecture series  January 10. The series will kick off with a look at the museum’s last 50 years. A complete list of events will be relased later in the month.
