Royal Ascot, traditional home of British horse racing, will be the venue for Coys’ annual Ascot classic car auction May 16. More than 70 classic vehicles will be offered for sale.
According to Coys, the featured offerings include a 1956 Lotus Eleven Series 1 in Le Mans specification, an Alfa Romeo TZ2 with coachwork by Giordanengo, and a 1960 Maserati 3500GT.
The Lotus, which is Mille Miglia eligible, Coys said, originally was built in short-door Club specification but was upgraded to full Le Mans spec with a De Dion rear axle and disc brakes on all four corners.
The Alfa was done by Giordanengo, who was best-known for his design of the Ferrari 250 GTO and California Spyders. The car had spent 40 years in the Milan Telecommunications Museum but has been readied for driving.
The Maserati had been in storage near Venice, Italy, until 2012 but also has been mechanically freshened and readied for driving.
Other significant lots include a 1918 Bianchi Sport, a 1937 Ford Model 78 V8 woodie station wagon, a 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 sports saloon by Lancefield and a 1995 Porsche 993 RS. There’s also a very colorful 1960 Lamborghini tractor.
The full auction catalog is available on the Coys website.
