From the fall of 1979 through the spring of 1994, Minder was a British television series in which Dennis Waterman played Terry McCann, honest and likable bodyguard (minder), and George Cole was Arthur Daley, unscrupulous used-car salesman.
In the show, Daley drove a 1981 Daimler Sovereign and McCann a Ford Capri. Both cars are being offered for sale April 20 at H&H Classics auction at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, UK.
The story goes that Cole tried to buy the Daimler in the mid-1980s but instead it was given away in a contest. It has been restored recently and shows 43,990 miles on its odometer. Meanwhile, the Capri was headed to the crusher but also has been “rejuvenated” and has 88,700 miles on its odometer.
“Both cars have been sympathetically restored and estimated to make allowance for their small screen history,” James McWilliam, H&H motorcar specialist, said in a news release.
“We know from past experience that playing a major role in a TV series can have a big impact on value, as witnessed by the 1976 Jaguar XJ12C that we sold last October which made a record-breaking £69,440 despite needing total restoration due to its New Avengers TV provenance. These cars are celebrities in their own right.”
H&H estimates the Daimler to be worth $50,000 to $65,000 and the Capri to fetch $90,000 to $125,000.
