Not to influence the judges but simply to highlight an outstanding vehicle in each of the categories eligible for Best of Show honors, Gordon McCall, director of motorsports for The Peninsula Signature events, has selected a car from each class as an example of what we can expect August 18 at the 15th annual The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club on the Monterey Peninsula.

Sure, the “judges” at the Quail are the car owners themselves, each getting to vote on the best of show winner. But they still might be influenced, right?

Regardless, “Each year, I am continually impressed by the caliber of automobiles hobbyists showcase on the field at The Quail,” McCall said in a news release. “These selections showcase the excellence that is now standard at this event. Not only are the vehicles impeccable examples, but the dedication of their owners is equally remarkable.”

More than 200 vehicles have been invited to display at the event, which is the most expensive ticket during Monterey Car Week. Tickets — at $650 each — were sold through a lottery system back in February and include the car show; luxury goods and automotive manufacturer displays; five culinary pavilions; and wines, spirits, cocktails and beer from local breweries, as well as an event poster and parking.

“The Quail,” its news release notes, “provides guests with the ability to spend a leisurely day in a garden party-like setting.”

Here are McCall’s selections of what the news release terms “standout vehicles:”
