In January, a group in Australia set a Guinness record for the “world’s largest simultaneous car tire burn out.” The official count was 103 cars.
A few months later, the Hot Rod Power tour made an attempt to break that record over summer when “more than 110 cars participated” at the Memphis International Raceway. However the attempt suffered some premature starts, some participants broke limited-slip diffs, and some cars had a single tire light up, which automatically disqualified participants in the attempt, and thus the effort did not break the record.
Meanwhile, social media lit up with word that Go Fast Entertainment of Arizona was challenging the Aussies.
Last Saturday, Go Fast Entertainment attracted 107 vehicles to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix for yet another record attempt. A semi-truck caught fire, some cars overheated — the ambient temperature was in the 100-hundred-teens — but a total of 107 vehicles took part and organizers are awaiting word from Guinness if enough were involved in simultaneous tire smoking to set a new standard.
Whether that happened or not, the Aussies already have begun planning their next event to retake or even up the record.
“Go Fast Entertainment is proud and excited to hopefully bring the record to Arizona,” said Chuck Sundstrum, owner of Go Fast Entertainment, “I think we officially beat the record by one and are still waiting confirmation from Guinness. We would really like to thank all of our participants and everyone who came out on that hot August night.”
Seeking to bring something new and exciting to the Arizona motorsports scene, the next Go Fast Entertainment event will be “Boostfest,” September 19 at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, co-hosted by Turbo by Garrett. This goal is to determine the fastest street car in Arizona, the best drift-team tandem, and will feature drift demos from four professional Formula Drift drivers.
