There will be something very special about the annual Avanti Owners Association International meet scheduled for May 3-5 in South Bend, Indiana. Well, actually a couple of things, since the meet is being held in conjunction with the 53rd annual Studebaker Drivers Club Meet and the Antique Studebaker Club International Meet.

But on top of all that, the Avanti Owners are inviting all former Studebaker and Avanti Motors employees to a special event the afternoon of May 4 at the Gillespie Conference Center in South Bend. The Avanti Owners group notes that the invitation extends to all Avanti employees whether they worked in Indiana, Ohio or Georgia.

The public is welcome to attend several functions during the gathering as well, including concours judging May 4 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Gillespie center, and an Avanti Cruise to the Bonnie Doon Drive-In in Mishawaka that evening.

Special features at the Avanti Owners meet will include “The World’s Fastest Studebaker,” a 1963 Avanti than was driven to more than 215 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats, one of the 1985 Avanti GT prototypes, and two of the three Avanti AXV prototypes.
