The 1967 Ford Mustang continued to reign as the most searched-for vehicle on ClassicCars.com in April, though the state of the current collector car market showed in the fact that the number of searches for that and for other leading cars dropped off from previous months’ levels.

For example, in February nearly 18,000 searches were done for the ’67 Mustang on ClassicCars.com. That number jumped to nearly 19,500 in March but fell to fewer than 13,500 in April.

But only the top cars seemed to slump in search count. Overall, searches on the site continued to increase, to nearly 5 million for April.

Perhaps because of the new sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro reaching dealerships, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro was the seventh most searched vehicle on the website in April, joining the 1968 Camaro among the top dozen vehicles sought by potential buyers. The ’68 Camaro has been a regular part of that top dozen cars, but the ’67 hasn’t made the top 12 since April 2015.

Another newcomer to the top 12 was the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette while the 1965 Shelby Cobra appeared in the top 12 for the first time since last June.

The dozen most searched-for cars on ClassicCars.com during March were:

  1. 1967 Ford Mustang
  2. 1968 Dodge Charger
  3. 1965 Ford Mustang
  4. 1968 Ford Mustang
  5. 1963 Chevrolet Corvette
  6. 1970 Dodge Charger
  7. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
  8. 1968 Ford Mustang
  9. 1957 Chevrolet Corvette
  10. 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
  11. 1977 Pontiac Trans Am
  12. 1965 Shelby Cobra

The fact that the top 12 list remained relatively stable presents an opportunity to look at the top searches on ClassicCars.com from another perspective. In April, there were more than 100,000 searches for Chevrolets compared with about 67,000 for all Ford vehicles. Dodge was third among brand searches.

Interestingly, Ford Mustang was fourth overall.

Others in the top 10 among brands searched in April were, in order: Pontiac, Volkswagen bus, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Plymouth and Porsche.

Next came Buick, Jeep, Oldsmobile and Ford Bronco, followed by Volkswagen, Datsun and BMW.

“We keep a close eye on the search behaviors of our visitors.  The changes month to month act as a helpful reflection of market trends and highlight vehicles on the rise,” said Roger Falcione, chief executive of ClassicCars.com.

“I am particularly interested to see the rise of the Ford Bronco, which is enjoying a significant increase in searches since the beginning of the year.”
