The shell of a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback found recently near the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula is indeed the “jump” car used in the movie Bullitt. That much has been verified by Mustang expert Kevin Marti of the Marti Report.

Antique firetrucks are wonderful things, flashy and brassy and honoring brave firefighters who rush into burning buildings to save people. There is a small but dedicated niche of firetruck enthusiasts who love and collect these mammoth pieces of Americana. They all have one thing in common: lots of storage space.

Here in Phoenix, we have the Hall of Flame museum, which despite its quirky name is one of the most-significant collections dedicated to vintage firefighting equipment. It’s open to the public and worth a visit.

Auctions America stages its 15th annual Fort Lauderdale collector car sale March 31-April 2 — and this is no April Fool’s Joke: Expect there to be much more interest in a couple of cars with significant ownership history than might otherwise be expected at such an auction.

The cars are a 2007 Ferrari F430 F1 coupe and a 2000 Cadillac Deville DHS sedan, neither of which might normally cause all that much excitement at a classic car auction. However, the Caddy was originally owned by the late astronaut and former U.S. Senator John Glenn and the Ferrari’s original owner was a future U.S. President, Donald “Make America Great Again” (by buying an Italian car?) Trump.

The world’s oldest Vespa scooter, the third prototype built by Piaggio in 1946, is currently being auctioned on the online bidding site Catawiki, with an expected result of $250,000 to $300,000.

That might seem like a whole lot for a simple Italian scooter, but consider this example as a historic artifact from the effort to provide cheap, efficient transportation for a nation devastated by World War II. With many millions produced, the Vespa scooter became emblematic of a youthful Neapolitan lifestyle, and were highly popular around the world.

Spring has sprung, so it’s time to dust off the ragtop and go cruising. What, still covered in snow? Be patient because the warm weather will come. It always does.

And this car’s youthful appearance is genuine; it is a 53-year-old survivor still wearing its original glossy paint and with just 51,500 miles on its odometer.

Set amidst the reportedly splendiferous Capability Brown gardens of the Stowe House, which is located adjacent to the Silverstone racing circuit, what might be considered the concours for the rest of us celebrates “the much maligned and long forgotten ‘ordinary’ classic cars and commercial vehicles of the late 1960s, ’70s and ’80s,” according to the British arm of Hagerty, the insurance and vehicle valuation-tracking company.

Since the automobile was first produced in significant numbers, only three vehicles have claimed the title as the best-selling of all-time. First, of course, it was Henry Ford’s Model T, the car that put the world on wheels. It took a few decades after the last T rolled off an assembly line, but eventually the Volkswagen Beetle could claim the best-selling crown. But it to would be surpassed by the Toyota Corolla.

The other day, a friend expressed some regret that he hadn’t bought a Toyota Supra Turbo back when they were cheap and unappreciated, before The Fast and the Furious and before collector cars from Japan hit the mainstream.

The Pick of the Day, an ultra-low-mileage 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo in apparently excellent original condition, would not be out of place today at a Mecum or Barrett-Jackson auction, or even one of the higher-end sales. Car collectors no longer turn up their noses at great Japanese performance cars, and this one looks special indeed.
