Located some 30 miles northeast of downtown Detroit, Stahls Automobile Museum is a collection of over 80 cars, from a 1886 Daimler prototype to special cars of the 1960s. Each decade is well represented with special emphasis on the 1930s and 1940s, when some of the most innovative and successful cars were produced.
Ted Stahl has concentrated on collecting mostly – but not exclusively – American cars that exemplify creative design and engineering.
The museum is richly embellished with service signs, gas pumps and plenty of other colorful memorabilia that add an extra dimension to the display of these wonderful cars.
A soda fountain, a huge, working dance organ and other details help put the vehicles in context and timeframe. An amazing collection of automated musical instruments dating from the 1930s surrounds the large banquet room.
The museum is located at 56516 N. Bay Drive, near 26 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue in Chesterfield Township, Michigan, about 30 miles northeast of downtown Detroit just off I-94. The museum is open to the public on Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Special arrangements also can be made for groups events.
