Early morning light rain didn’t discourage exhibitors or spectators at the 11th edition of The Milwaukee Masterpiece. A light breeze cleared the skies quickly at the picturesque lakefront location.
The Milwaukee Masterpiece takes place on the shores of Lake Michigan at Veteran’s Park, a spectacular venue situated between the Milwaukee Yacht Club and the stunningly modern Milwaukee Art Museum with its kinetic “wings.”
More than 200 unique cars, trucks and motorcycles were arrayed on the show field. Complementing the rolling sculpture for the first time were “Beautiful Boats,” an array of classic wooden boats from mid-20th century.
The Shelby GT350, one of the most recognizable icons of American performance car history, was celebrated during the 2015 Milwaukee Masterpiece. Automotive author, collector and Milwaukee businessman Colin Comer chaired the Shelby Mustang class.
The show recognized 24 “First-in-Class” winners and 26 “Premier” award winners in numerous categories. Best in Show – Early honors went to Greg Ornazian’s 1935 Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster and Best in Show – Late winner was Ken Nagel’s 1958 Buick Limited Convertible.
The Masterpiece has been recognized by state, county and city leadership for its commitment to making a positive impact in the community. Inaugurated in August 2005, the Milwaukee Masterpiece has accomplished a good deal in its 10 years, making itself a destination for local residents as well as regional travelers. The show has grown to be counted among the most respected events of its kind in the nation.
In 2006, Club Day was established as a companion event, held in the same venue on Saturday prior to Sunday’s Concours. The fun and casual “Club Saturday At The M” had about 200 entries in the showfield with a completely separate roster from the Sunday Concours.
The Club Saturday Sponsor’s Choice award, also known as Best of Show, went to John Dales and John Eggert and their 1961 DeSoto. The Chief Judge’s award went to Bill and Nancy Anderson and their 1959 South Seas Samoan boat. The top People’s Choice vote getter was Charlie Hanson with his 1934 Chevrolet Master four-door sedan.
Like previous years, many rarities dotted the show field with brand names such as Devin, Erskine, Gardener, Haynes, Hupmobile, Kissel, Knox, Woodill and more.
Proceeds raised by The Masterpiece benefit social and medical service programs. The Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Meta House have been designated as the 2015 beneficiaries of The Masterpiece Ltd., the non-profit organization that operates The Milwaukee Masterpiece. In 2014, $37,000 was distributed to the charities.
