The Lime Rock Historic Festival at Lime Rock Park racetrack in Connecticut celebrated it’s 34th year last weekend and this mixture of race, concours and car club activities continues to be one of the signature vintage sports car weekends in the United States.
The 2016 event celebrated Vintage Trans Am Cars with Pete Brock and John Morton as the guests of honor. Both were on hand all weekend to sign autographs and to talk about their careers with fans.
The vintage Trans Am races included plenty of historic cars with thundering V8 engines battling on track to spectators’ delight. They were but a part of the weekend racing which included everything from pre-war race cars to formula cars to sports racers of the 1950s and ‘60s.
Best of show was this Birdcage MaseratiRacing isn’t allowed on Sunday at Lime Rock so track owner Skip Barber years ago had a great idea to hold a concours instead. Everything from Pre-War European and American cars to race cars to Sports and GT cars from the 1950s through 1973 are invited.
My favorite cars of the Sunday At The Park Concurs were from both ends of the spectrum. The first was the nicest Series 1 Fiat 850 Spider I have ever seen and the other was a breathtaking V12 Laguna special-bodied pre-war racer.
The best of show was awarded to a menacing and very sexy Maserati Birdcage that had already spent the weekend delighting fans on the race track.
This event also has car corrals for clubs as well as a great vendor area with cars, automobilia and parts for sale. There were some great deals in the area and I ended up coming home with too many books and MG parts.
